KISDI will hold a debate on the direction of the country’s digital innovation policy on December 25.

Discussions by top digital innovation experts on the ‘establishment of new policy directions for digital innovation by the new administration’.

At 1PM on December 25, KISDI (President Kwon Ho-yeol) will host ‘Debate on the direction of the country’s digital innovation policy, 2022 KISDI research achievement presentation’ online.

This event was organized to debate the most effective ways of responding to the changes taking place in the digital environment and to discuss how the new administration should establish the direction of the country’s digital innovation policy in order to resolve the economic and social problems currently facing the nation. The event will be broadcast live on KISDI YouTube (youtube.com/c/KISDIPR).

The debate will begin with an opening address by KISDI President Kwon Ho-yeol, followed by a congratulatory address by Chairperson Jung Hae-gu of the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences, a debate session by leading experts in digital innovation, and a presentation session on KISDI’s latest research achievements.

In session 1, the keynote presentation (on the theme of ‘The Direction of the New Administration’s Digital Policies and Future Tasks’) will be given by Kim Jeong-eon, the head of KISDI’s Digital Economy & Society Research Division. The debate will be moderated by Professor Kwon Nam-hoon of Konkuk University. The debate panelists will include ETRI President Kim Myung-joon, President Moon Yong-sik of the National Information Society Agency (NIA), Professor Lee Hee-jung of Korean University, Professor Park Min-su of Sungkyunkwan University, CEO Choi Sung-jin of the Korea Startup Forum, Ha Jung-woo, head of NAVER AI Lab, and Mr. Park Kyung-soo, director of Samjeong KPMG. These digital innovation experts will engage in a serious in-depth discussion of the direction to be taken by the new administration concerning the nation’s digital policies.

Session 2~4 will include presentations on KISDI’s research achievements in the three areas of ▲ the Digital Economy Society ▲ Communication and Broadcasting and ▲ ICT Data and International Cooperation, followed by debates with the participation of experts.

In session 2, held on the theme of the ‘Digital Economy Society’, presentations will be given on the key research results of KISDI’s Digital Economy & Society Research Division. The presentations will cover such issues as the “economic repercussions of digitalization and innovation strategies” (Lee Joon-bae, head of KISDI’s Department of Digital Economy Research), “research on policy directions and the development of online platform ecosystems” (Park Yuri, head of KISDI’s Platform Policy Research Center), and the “direction and tasks of ethics policies for securing AI reliability” (Moon Jung-wook, head of KISDI’s Center for AI & Social Policy). The debate will be moderated by Kim Jeong-eon, the head of KISDI’s Digital Economy & Society Research Division, while Professor Song Ji-hee of Seoul National University, Professor Jeon Sung-min of Gachon University, and Professor Kim Myung-joo of Seoul Women's University will participate in the debate on each topic.

In session 3, to be held on the theme of ‘Communication and Broadcasting’, presentations will be given on the key research results of KISDI’s Telecommunications & Spectrum Research Division and Broadcasting & Media Research Division. The presentations will cover such subjects as the “policy directions for enhancing communication networks” (Senior Research Yeo Jae-hyun of KISDI), and “the operating mechanism of globally leading OTT services and the implications for South Korea” (Kang Jun-seok, head of KISDI’s Department of Media Market Analysis). The debate will be moderated by Kim Min-chul, the head of KISDI’s Telecommunications & Spectrum Research Division, while Professor Byun Jeong-wook of Korea National Defense University and Director Yoo Gun-sik of the KBS Public Media Institute will participate as the guest debaters.

In session 4, to be held on the theme of ‘ICT Data International Cooperation’, presentations will be given on the key research results of KISDI’s International Cooperation Research Division and ICT Data Science Research Division. The presentations will concern such issues as the “direction of the response to digital trade regulations in the broadcasting sector” (Research Fellow Kim Seung-min from KISDI) and the “development of a forecasting model for data-based policy support” (Jung Yong-chan, head of KISDI’s Center for Data analysis and forecasting). The debate will be moderated by Jung Hyun-joon, the head of KISDI’s ICT Data Science Research Division, while Professor Kim Kyung-woo of Yonsei University’s Graduate School of Law and Professor Shim Dong-nyuk of Konkuk University will participate as the invited debaters.
