KISDI kicked off the 2022 International Conference on Inter-Korean Broadcasting & Communications on October 6 (Thu.) jointly with the Korea Communications Commission at Ferrum Tower.

The International Conference on Inter-Korean Broadcasting & Communications is an event where international and local academics and experts in broadcasting and communications jointly participate. It is hosted annually by the Korea Communications Commission and the KISDI to promote the keen awareness of the international community. This year, it was convened as an online and offline event at the same time.

At the conference on the theme of “Korean broadcasting & communication exchange and cooperation deeply felt in the hearts of the people and public”, the experience of broadcasting and communication exchanges with North Korea and the recent use of new media in North Korea were introduced, with presentations and debates on the measures of exchange cooperation of inter-Korean broadcasting and communications with related experts being conducted as well.

The conference was divided into Part 1 (Speakers presentation) and Part 2 (Roundtable discussion) followed by a panel discussion. In Part 1, Professor Seung-hee Ha at the Institute of North Korean Studies, Dongguk University introduced the content of “A Study on the Use of YouTube Propaganda Media in North Korea” and Managing Director Hyun-kyung Kim from Unification Broadcasting Research Center, MBC gave a presentation titled “The Current Status and Tasks of Production of the North Korean Broadcasting System- Focusing on Tong-il (Reunification) Observatory”. In addition, Team Leader Chan-su Lee for the Growth Business Planning Team, SK Telecom presented on the topic called “the Gradual Dissemination of Information in the Lives of North Koreans and Telecommunication Cooperation Model between South and North Korea”.

In Part 2, Professor Jina Kim from Department of Language and Diplomacy, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies was the chairperson of the discussion. Assistant Professor Seong-hee Kim from the Department of Economics and Finance, Suwon University presented on the topic of “Korean Reunification from the Perspectives of MZ Generations”, and Peter Moody, a visiting scholar at the Department of East Asian Languages & Cultures in Seoul National University and Kyungnam University, Elody Stanislas, a broadcaster, from France, and Euneujeongi Brewery CEO Jusang Hwang shared their insights and views the topic of “Korean Reunification from the eyes of MZ Generations”.

In the panel discussion, in-depth discussions were held with relevant experts and presenters on measures to exchange and cooperate in broadcasting and communications between the two Koreas that are deeply felt in the hearts of the people, young and old alike.
