KISDI jointly hosted the regular academic conference for the second half of the Korea Data Law and Policy Society

“The way that the platform laws and policies should go”

Presentation and discussion on recent major issues such as platform-related “Competition and Innovation”

The respective themes of six presentation

KISDI (President Ho-yeol Kwon) jointly hosted the regular academic conference for the second half of the Korea Data Law and Policy Society at the Annexed International Conference Room in Yonsei Law School on Nov. 18 (Thur.) with the Korea Data Law and Policy Society and the Institute for Legal Studies, Yonsei University.

The conference consisted of four parts as follows. In Parts 1 and 2, three themes each in relation to the key issues including platform-related competition and innovation were discussed, and a panel discussion was conducted in Part 3.

Three themes in Part 1 were as follows: First, Professor Tae-ho Kim at Changwon National University gave a presentation on the topic of “competition and sector-specific regulations on online platforms.” Next, Professor In-kook Gye at Korea University gave a presentation about “regulatory and legal analysis of online platform services”. Third, Professor Hye-ryun Jung at Korean National Police University gave a presentation about the “trend and evaluation of platform regulation legislation in major countries.”

In Part 2, Professor Nansulhun Choi at Yonsei University presented the first theme titled “Legal regulations on the competition of platform” and Professor Min-ki Kim at KAIST presented the second theme titled “Platform innovation and competition issues”. Then, Professor Kyu-tae Kwak at Soonchunhyang University presented the third theme titled “Platform and social-economical conflict.”

In Part 3, with Professor Hyung-do Nam at Yonsei University in the role of moderator, a panel discussion took place on the topic of “the way that the platform laws and policies should go.” The following panelists participated in the discussion: Yuri Park, the head of the Center (KISDI Platform Policy Research Center), Dr. Gwang-jae Jung (Department of Telecommunications Competition Policy Research at KISDI ), Dr. Joon-mo Kang (Lee & Ko Law Firm), Jeong-won Han (team leader of the Digital Platform Team at the Ministry of Science and ICT), Sun-kyung Choi (general manager at the Consumer Policy Coordination Division in the Korea Communications Commission).
