Jung Wook Moon, Executive Director of the Department of Digital Society Strategy Research at the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI, President Sangkyu Rhee), served as the chair for the “Responsible AI: Safe, Trustworthy” panel discussion at the global AI conference “AI World 2025,” held on September 25 at Lotte World Tower in Seoul.
The session examined the key requirements and challenges of “Responsible AI” from multiple perspectives and explored solutions in the areas of policy, industry, and standardization. Panelists included Gyehyeon Park, Executive Director at Microsoft Korea, and Junho Kwak, Head of the Trustworthy AI Technology Team at TTA.
As panel chair, Executive Director Moon emphasized that “AI reliability and safety are not merely technical challenges but essential conditions for society to accept and utilize AI,” adding that “when technological innovation and risk management are in balance, social trust can be established—and that becomes the starting point of an AI-based society.”
Gyehyeon Park stated, “At Microsoft, we have made trustworthy AI development a core goal. In developing generative AI, we assess and manage risks based on a four-stage ‘Responsible AI Framework’ consisting of governance, mapping, measurement, and management,” adding that “we build trust with our customers and partners by publishing an annual Responsible AI Transparency Report.”
Junho Kwak remarked, “Ensuring AI safety and reliability cannot be achieved by the efforts of any single nation alone. International cooperation and the establishment of scientific verification systems must go hand in hand, and above all, it is crucial to accurately understand the nature of the risks involved.”
“AI World 2025,” jointly hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and Financial News and organized by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), was held under the theme “AI, Real Impact.”
Featuring a keynote speech by Professor Jerry Kaplan of Stanford University, the event brought together representatives from numerous global and domestic companies as well as experts from academia and policy circles—including Naver Cloud, FuriosaAI, and Upstage—to discuss strategies and social responsibilities in the AI era.
KISDI plans to continue advancing policy research to ensure AI ethics, reliability, and safety, while strengthening collaboration among industry, academia, and civil society to enhance AI’s social acceptance. The institute will also reflect public voices in policymaking through national surveys, open seminars, and policy forums—contributing to the realization of “AI for All” and an “AI-based society.”
