KISDI will attend the International Telecommunication Union’s World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-22), and lead the discussions on resolving the global digital divide.

Discussion on the digital inclusive society, e.g. the Global Youth Summit’s call for action.

The ITU’s World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-22) will be held from June 6-16 in Kigali, Rwanda.

A total of 2000 delegates from 193 member countries and sector member countries will attend the event.

A number of ICT-related industry-academia experts from South Korea, including KSIDI Director Ko Sang-won (current Vice Chairman of ITU-DSG1), will attend the event. Assistant Research Fellow Mina Jun was elected as Chairman of the Working Group of the plenary session (WGPL) of WTDC-22.

KISDI (President Kwon Ho-yeol, KISDI) announced that it will participate as an ITU-D sector member country in the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC*-22), which will be hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Kigali, Rwanda from June 6 (Monday) to 16 (Thursday).

Some 2,000 delegates from 193 member countries and sector member countries will attend the event. The South Korean delegation will be led by Kim Sung-kyu, head of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Ministry of Science and ICT. Domestic ICT experts from academia, industry and research institutes will also attend the event, including KISDI Director Ko Sang-won (current Vice Chairman of ITU-D SG1).

As the top decision-making body of the ITU-D, the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-22) will decide policy/strategy directions for the next 4 years through ITU-D declaration and action plan adoption, and discuss such issues as the selection of the chairperson for the study group and the Telecommunications Development Advisory Group (TDAG) for the next session, and deliberate on resolutions and recommendations concerning the development of information communication and the elimination of the information divide.

Also, Assistant Research Fellow Mina Jun was elected as Chairman of the Working Group of the plenary session (WGPL) of WTDC-22 based on her expertise and experience regarding ITU-d sector and is expected to show leadership in the smooth progress of the meeting and the drawing up of a consensus.

The Generation Connect Global Youth Summit is a hybrid event held in conjunction with the WTDC022 from June 2~4 in Kilgali. The summit issued a call to action on the digital future desired by youth and with the meaningful participation of young people.

In South Korea, five youth representatives attended the event via the Internet and participated in discussions on such issues as a safe cyber world, skills development, gender equality, and employment.

Elections for high-ranking positions in the ITU will take place during the plenipotentiary conference to be held in September of this year. Lee Jae-sup, (current director of the ITU-T) is campaigning for election as secretary-general of the ITU. KISDI plans to fully support his campaign activities by organizing receptions and meeting with the heads of delegations from other countries to lobby for his candidacy.
