KISDI (President Ho-yeol Kwon) kicked off the on/ offline “2022 Research Symposium on Measures to Solve Social Issues Based on ICT” on the theme of “Unlocking the Potential of Beneficial AI and Social Tasks” at the Hangang Hall of K Hotel Seoul on Nov. 3, 2022 (Thur.)

The theme of this symposium sponsored by the Ministry of Science and ICT is “Beneficial AI” to present the expansion of the discussion on the ethical and social impact of AI for the possibility of AI to solve social problems. The presentations and panel discussions attended by industry-academia-research experts from humanities, economics, sociology, and legal fields and the health care and technology industries strived to seek social tasks and methods necessary for realizing beneficial AI from a multidisciplinary perspective.

In Session 1, “Beneficial AI and Sensitivity Design”, “Plans for using AI in Health and Care Services in the Super-Aging Era”, and “Challenge and Potential to Build a Beneficial AI Ecosystem” was presented on the theme of “Potential of Beneficial AI”.

Research Fellow Aram Moon at KISDI introduced beneficial AI use cases and measures to use the value sensitivity design for beneficial AI on the theme of “Beneficial AI and Value Sensitivity Design”.

Professor Hong-soo Kim at the Graduate School of Public Health, Seoul National University, gave a presentation titled “Plans for Using AI in Health and Care Services in the Super-Aging Era”, in which the trend of internal and domestic AI uses in health and care services due to an aging population, with policy implications and proposals being presented.

CEO Suk-won Yoon at TestWorks Inc. proposed the content on AI and data-building strategies focusing on AI use cases of social ventures on the theme of “Challenge and Potential for Building Beneficial AI Ecosystem”.

In Session 2, “Social Influence of Good Data”, and “Legal System Improvement Measures for Beneficial AI” was presented on the theme of “Social Tasks for Beneficial AI”.

Senior Research Fellow Ho-yeong Lee at KISDI, presented the data policy study results to implement beneficial AI, which was co-studied with Professor Min-ki Kim of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, on the theme of “the Social influence of Good Data”.

Associate Research Fellow Kwang-jin Moon at KISDI, presented the research content in relation to legal system improvements required to facilitate the use of AI technology in the electricity supply and social security areas on the theme of “Legal System Improvement Measures for Beneficial AI”.

Following this, Professor Kyung-bae Min at Kyung Hee Cyber University chaired the panel discussion on the theme of “Tasks and Policy Direction for Beneficial AI”. The panelists included Director Bon-kwon Koo at the Human Digital Research Institute, Professor Ji-won Seon at Kwangwoon University, and Professor Jun-bae Lee at the National Defense University.
