KISDI kicked off the “2022 International Broadcast Co-Production Conference” on the theme “Time to Meet and Create Again!” on September 29 (Thu.)

The International Broadcast Co-Production Conference is an annual event jointly hosted by the Korea Communications Commission and KISDI to promote the exchange of joint production with other nations and the entry of Korean Broadcast content to overseas markets. This year, it is held as a face-to-face event for the first time in three years since the COVID-19 outbreak, with online participation also available as an alternative.

The conference is composed of a keynote speech, a special session by the guest country of honor, and three main sessions. Korea Educational Broadcasting System President Yu-yeol Kim gave the keynote speech titled “Joint Production in the Digital Transformation Era”, while Drama Vice President Robert Franke from ZDF Studios in Germany gave a speech titled “Successful Financing Structure for International Joint Production”.

In the special session, Commissioner Pirongrong Ramasoota from the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) in Thailand presented the opening remarks as the guest country of honor and a presentation titled “Thailand's Challenge for Broadcast Co-Production”. Then, it was followed up by presentations about the production trend of Thailand broadcasters and a presentation by Professor Hwang-Seung Cheong (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies) about the Trends in Cultural Exchange between Korea and Thailand & Future Challenges.

In the first session on the theme of “What Can We Create Together?,” NHK Executive Producer Yoichiro Takahashi (in Japan) presented his speech on “My Experiences of Co-Production at the ABU” and Professor Ki-soo Park (Hanyang University) gave his presention on “Open Sharing of Participatory Experiences”. General Manager Hee-do Jeong from Jeonju Television prepared his presentation titled “Overseas Co-Production Cases and Strategies,” after which Professor Yeran Kim conducted a debate on creative storytelling for co-production as a moderator.

In the second session on the theme of “Who Can We Create Together With?”, Lisa Clarkson from CBC, Canada, Yuanchang Sun Amanda from Alibaba-YOUKU, China, and Matthew Trustram from European Broadcasting Union provided a video presentation. Afterward, Professor Sejung Choi from Korea University assumed the role of moderator in a debate on the topic of “Partners in the Newly-Establishing Audiovisual Media Content Ecosystem.”

In the third session, the 2022 International Broadcast Co-Production Awardee Presentation was conducted to present each of their production processes. In this session, domestic and international broadcasting experts participated to discuss the obstacles of international co-production and how to leverage and promote co-production. In addition, a discussion as to “The Future of Global Collaboration that MZ Generation Creates” was also held.
