"Asia Pacific Information Infrastructure (APII) Workshop 2007 and Korea-Japan APII Testbed 10 Gbps Launching Ceremony" co-hosted by the Korea Information Society Development Institute(KISDI) and National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Japan(NICT) were held on March 23-24 at the Lotte Hotel Seoul located in Sogong-dong.
The workshop, which seeks to share technologies, policies and outcomes of the research projects relating to international advanced networks based on APII Testbed and to explore ways to cooperate with each other for mutual development, also included a tele-surgery performed live using high-definition(HD) video quality at the 1st Asia Pacific Society of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery held in Fukuoka, Japan linking Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. Fukuoka in Japan and Lotte Hotel Seoul.
Hoick Suck, Chairman of KISDI, said "Korea and Japan have raised awareness of the importance of establishing international research networks in the Asia-Pacific region and relevant policies." He also note that "In particular, APII Testbed linking Korea and Japan has been successfully upgraded to 10Gbps" while stressing that "APII Workshop is expanding its boundary of participation to include Southeast Asia, North America and Europe to connect with other international Advanced Networks like TEIN2 and TransPAC2, etc.
