Korea Information Society Development Institute(KISDI, Dr. Inuk Chung, Executive Director of APII Cooperation Center) and National Institute of Information and Communications Technology(NICT, Mr. Yuichi Matsushima, Vice President) signed a memorandum of understanding(MOU) on 27th, a day before the APII Workshop 2007 at Lotte Hotel (Sogong-dong) in Seoul to continue cooperation on Korea-Japan APII Testbed project.
The agreement, along with APII Testbed 10 Gbps Launching Ceremony, reaffirmed the objectives of the project while sought to promote joint effort by APII Cooperation Center and APII Technology Center to work closely with each other in areas of network use, experiments and R&D. Meanwhile, the two groups also promised to support a variety of research activities using APII Testbed between the two countries, share information about selected application tasks and report results to APEC TEL Working Group meetings on a regular basis.
Based on the agreement, the two centers will closely cooperate with each other to continuously develop APII Testbed project in the future. In particular, they will make their best effort to enhance international cooperation among APEC members by expanding connections to other international research networks and encouraging international joint research proposals using these new connections.
※ APII Testbed is designed to lay a foundation for research activities in a variety of fields by providing APEC members with next-generation Internet environment to advance the establishment of the information infrastructure in the Asia Pacific region. It is an international cooperation project involved in building high-speed research networks interconnecting countries in the region, exploring and supporting joint research projects. In 1996, Korea established APII Cooperation Center in KISDI and Japan APII Technology Center in NICT, maintaining partnership through ICT Working Group.
