The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) visited Naypyidaw and Yangon, Myanmar from November 26 to December 3, 2011 to hold Workshop on Consultation on Information Security Policy in Myanmar, attend ITU-ASEAN Subregional CSIRT/CIRT/CERT Workshop for CLMV and host Korea-Myanmar PKI Technology Workshop.
Workshop on Consultation on Information Security Policy in Myanmar was co-held by KISDI and the Ministry of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs of Myanmar (MCPT) in Naypyidaw on November 28 and many information security experts and government officials from 42 ministries and relevant agencies attended the workshop, reflecting a great interest in the consultation project. The Korean consultation group provided policy advises on information security in Myanmar and suggested substantial management strategies which ultimately enhance the effectiveness of the project and draw a positive response from the government officials in Myanmar.
The Korean consultation group also participated in ITU-ASEAN Subregional CSIRT/CIRT/CERT Workshop for CLMV (Cambodia, Laos. Myanmar and Vietnam) on November 30 in which Dr. In-Soo Kang of KISDI made a presentation on CSIRT Management Strategies for Myanmar. This workshop was prepared to enhance information security capacities of CLMV countries and to reinforce international collaboration. The Korean consultation group invited a great interest of information security experts in the workshop by sharing knowledge and expertise in information protection.
At Korea-Myanmar PKI Technology Workshop held at Info-Tech, Yangon, on December 1, Division Manager Jae-Jung Kim and Senior Manager Sang-Guen Lee of the Korea Information Certificate Authority (KICA) made a presentation on the overview of PKI, qualifications of certificate authorities, PKI standards and PKI applications. PKI Technology Workshop was held at the request of Myanmar’s ISP, Yatanarpon Teleport and the sessions of the workshop consisted of presentations made by KISDI-invited information technology experts. CEO of Yatanarpon Teleport, Tin Win said this workshop provided an opportunity to have in-depth discussions on PKI and it is expected to contribute to the development of PKI in Myanmar. He also expressed his appreciation to KISDI for organizing this meaningful workshop.
The Korean consultation group’s visit to Myanmar resulted in successful outcomes of 2011 KISDI Consultation Project for Myanmar and offered Myanmar helpful advice and assistance through various channels. Based on the results of policy consultation, KISDI plans to send a consultation report on information security and policy advice to MCPT of Myanmar and this consultation project worked to take the cooperative relationship between Korea and Myanmar to the next level.
