The Korea Information Society Development Institue (KISDI) held the Kick-off meeting for the Information Security Policy Consultation Project for Costa Rica at a KISDI conference room on June 24, 2013. The visit of the Costa Rican delegation to Korea between June 23 and 29, which was part of the KISDI Consultation Project, was participated by five Costa Rican experts from related organizations including Santiago Núñez, Director of Digital Technology at Ministry of Science, Technology and Telecommunications (MICITT). For the Costa Rican delegation to have hands-on experience of Korea’s information security environment and acquire practical advice on information security policies through knowledge and experience sharing, KISDI had prepared thorough programs including seminars and meetings with Korean experts on information security and cyber crime.

At the seminar followed by the Kick-off meeting, Prof. Lee Hui-Jo of Korea University garnered great attention of the delegation with his presentation, “Cyber Security Threats and Defence Strategies”. During the presentation, Prof. Lee categorized recent cyber attacks by type and introduced the latest technologies to detect malicious codes.

During their stay, the delegates from Costa Rica visited and attended a number of relevant organizations, seminars and symposiums. And the consultation program served as a great opportunity for Korea as well to share the country’s knowledge and information with the Costa Rican delegates so that they can benchmark Korea’s examples, to leave a positive impression about Korea through ongoing communication, and to reaffirm the needs of the Costa Rican.

KISDI has been undertaking policy consultation projects for developing nations and other major partner countries in the fields of information, communications and broadcasting. Costa Rica, the target country of this year’s consultation project, had expressed the needs for consultation on information security and KISIDI, in response, has formed a consultative group of experts and is currently providing information security policy consultation to Costa Rica. Reflecting issues raised during this visit, KISDI will soon conduct on-site consultation and the final workshop in Costa Rica, and take a systematic approach to offer concrete proposals that could lead to the development of the country’s information security policy.
