The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) was visited by the delegation of Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) on March 13 and had discussions on the roles of governments and regulators in making policies on broadcasting and communications as well as in drawing up ICT development strategies.
BOCRA delegates’ visit to KISDI was part of their plan to benchmark leading countries in ICT for the development of the country’s future ICT strategies. Dr. Ko Sang-won, Director of the International Cooperation Research Division at KISDI welcomed the delegation headed by Dr. Masego Ayo Mpotokwane, Chairperson of BOCRA, and expressed his hope that the visit would pave the way for continued cooperation and exchanges between Botswana’s policy makers and KISDI. In response, Dr. Mpotokwane said that he expected to learn from ICT powerhouse Korea regarding policy making for the broadcasting and communications sector and to continue to work with KISDI in coming years.
In the meeting attended by Dr. Ko Sang-won, Dr. Kang Ha-yun, Dr. Nam Sang-yirl and Dr. Lee Jong-hwa of KISDI and delegates from BOCRA, Dr. Ko Sang-won gave a presentation on Korea’s broadcasting and communications policies and discussed the key success factors of Korea’s ICT development and the government’s creative economy initiative.
The BOCRA delegation expressed their gratitude and said that the meeting was a great opportunity to hear from ICT experts in Korea about Korea’s experience in developing policies for the broadcasting and communications sector.
