The Postal Service Research Division of the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) held the 25th KISDI-SRPA/SRI Postal Exchange Seminar on 25-29 May, 2014 in Seoul and Jeju, Korea.
The Seminar was first organized in 2000 as a result of the memorandum of understanding on the exchange and cooperation in the postal sector between Korea and China signed at the Korea-China Postal Ministerial Meeting during the 1999 Universal Postal Congress in Beijing. Since then, the bilateral seminar is annually hosted by Korea’s KISDI and SRPA/SRI of China in rotation.
All the members of the Postal Service Research Division including Dr. Jeong Jin-Ha, Director of the division, and his Chinese counterpart, Mr. Zhou Huande, President of SRI and two Chinese researchers, Chen Yiyun and Wu Yixiao attended the seminar.
The Chinese delegation headed by President Zhou Huande met with President Kim Do-Whan of KISDI, visited a number of postal service sites in Jeju, and had an academic seminar with members of the Postal Service Research Division.
During the seminar, a wide range of issues in the Korean and Chinese postal sectors were discussed. Park Jae-Seog, Senior Researcher of KISDI, gave a presentation on Korea Post’s credit card business strategy and offered recommendations to boost the competitiveness of Korea Post’s credit card business and to strengthen the public role of Korea Post as a state-owned institution. Lee Yong-Soo, Senior Researcher of KISDI, introduced a long-term informatization strategy for Korea Post in his presentation titled, “Long-Term IT Strategy of Korea Post for Future Strategy Implementation”.
Researcher Chen Yiyun from China presented on China Post’s financial business strategy in the rapidly growing Internet financial market in China thanks to the popularity of e-commerce, while Researcher Wu Yixiao explained strategies for China Post’s e-commerce business from the perspective of the operation, logistics and payments.
This seminar served as a venue for the two countries to share major issues in the postal service sector in Korea and China and provided the foundation for the co-prosperity of the two countries’ postal business through continued cooperation in research activities.
