The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) held the third Korean Media Panel Conference at EL Tower in Seoul on September 4.
The objective of this conference was to share the results and raw data of the Korean Media Panel Survey, which has been performed annually since 2010, with universities, research institutes, industries and government authorities and to discuss the outcomes of studies conducted using the data.
The Korean Media Panel Survey is a long-term follow-up survey designed to analyze the impact of the ever-changing media environment and the CPND (Content-Platform-Network-Device) ecosystem emerged as a result of industry convergence and smart technology development on the media consumption patterns of individuals and households. The survey started to collect data from the panel in the capital area and six major metropolitan cities in 2010 and was expanded to track approximately 5,000 households and 12,000 individuals across the nation in 2011, representing an unprecedented scale of a panel survey in the media sector.
A total of 20 papers including 17 general research papers and three papers that won the Graduate Student Paper Award organized as part of the conference were presented by scholars and researchers from a wide range of academic fields including journalism, economics, public administration, sociology and psychology.
The conference consisted of seven general research paper sessions (Session 1: Research and Exploration of Media Use, Session 2: Mobile Device and Service Usage, Session 3: Media Use and Literacy, Session 4: Physical Activities and Media Use, Session 5: Data Use and Protection, Session 6: Analysis of Media User Behaviors, Session 7: Spatio-Temporal Analysis of Media Use) and one separate session for the Graduate Student Paper Award winning papers.
