The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) and the Cybercommunication Academic Society jointly held the “Special Seminar on the Hyper-Connected Society and the Internet of Things” on September 11 at the Korea Press Center.

This seminar was organized to discuss the changes people have been experiencing and challenges that need to be proactively addressed with the emergence of the hyper-connected society. The two main presentations of the seminar also provided an opportunity to review the current status of the hyper-connected society and to envision the future direction.

In the first presentation titled “Impact of the Internet of Things on Our Society”, Prof. Lee Kyoung-jun of Kyung Hee University introduced several new business models using rapidly-developing IoT technologies and their impact on our society.

The second presenter of the seminar Prof. Hwang Chang-geun of Hongik University made his presentation titled “Internet of Things and Personal Data,” which examines the relationship between the IoT and personal data in the hyper-connected society and relevant laws and regulations as well as explores balanced ways to address possible conflicts arising along the way.

During the following panel discussion, Dr. Lee Ho-young of KISDI and Attorney Jung Kyung-oh of Law Firm Hanjoong shared their thoughts on the new norms and paradigm of cooperation in the hyper-connected society as well as new arrangements different players in our society made as a way to adjust to the new environment.
