2016 ICT Industry Prospect Conference was held on October 5-6, 2015 at Daejeon Convention Center.
Aiming to look into the present and future of the ICT industry, this conference was hosted by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and co-organized by the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI), Institute for Information & Communications Technology Promotion (IITP), Korea Electronics Association (KEA), Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI), National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), and Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA).
This annual conference is one of the largest ICT conferences held in Korea to discuss the current and future perspectives of ICT markets and technologies as well as strategies for the future. This year, under the banner of “realizing a creative Korea through innovation and opportunities in ICT”, the conference was focused on discussing and sharing the latest information and trends in ICT industries and technologies to meet the goal of the K-ICT strategy, which is at the center of the Korean government’s drive for the creative economy.
Dr. Kim Jeong-eon, Head of the ICT Industry Research Department at KISDI made a keynote presentation on “ICT Market Outlook for 2016~2020” in Day 1, and moderated a session on “Creating New Market Through ICT Innovation” in Day 2.
In his keynote presentation, Dr. Kim predicted that Korea’s ICT production and ICT exports will grow by 1.2% to KRW 448.6 trillion and by 1.6% to USD 179.1 billion, respectively, in 2016 amid the slow recovery of the domestic and global economies. In addition, he projected that the growth of ICT production and ICT exports will be moderate between 2016 and 2020 with an annual average growth rate of 2.0% and 3.1%, respectively, due to the stable but moderate growth trends in the domestic and global economies negatively affecting demand for ICT products and services.
During the session on Creating New Market Through ICT Innovation, presentations titled “ICT Convergence: where we are now and what needs to be done for a take-off” by Kim Hee-su, Assistant Director of Digieco, “Healthcare Innovation – Ubiquitous Health Technology Based on Health-IT” by Dr. Park Soo-jun of ETRI, and “Fintech & Finance Innovation” by Shin Hyun-uk, CEO of Popfunding were delivered to the audience.
