On August 28, KISDI (President Kim Dae-hee) held the 1st Communications Policy Advisory Conference on the issue of consumer protection and policy directions in the intelligence information society in the second main conference room of KISDI. Chairman Lee Hyo-seong of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) attended the conference.
In addition to Chairman Lee, other representatives from the KCC included Director Kim Jae-young of the Consumer Policy Bureau, Director Choi Seong-ho of the Planning and Coordination Bureau, Manager Kim Jong-young of the Consumer Policy Bureau, and Team Leader Park Myeong-jin of the Internet Ethics Team. The conference agenda consisted of three main presentations: ① Introduction to general facts about KISDI (Director Kim Jeong-eon of Department of ICT Strategy Research); ② Consumer Issues and Protection in the Intelligence Information Society (Researcher Lee Won-tae of Department of ICT Strategy Research); and ③ Mid- to Long-term Consumer Policy Directions (Researcher Kim Hyun-soo of the Department of Telecommunications & Spectrum Research).
At the conference, Chairman Lee asserted that the benefits of the intelligence and information society must be evenly distributed to everyone, and that the government, research bodies, and industry must work together to minimize dysfunctions. He asked KISDI to play a hub role in this effort, and praised it for taking a central role in the development of the broadcast communication industry, which has been one of the key growth engines of Korea's economy over the last thirty years. He further asked for KISDI's help in establishing policies that the general public can trust.
After a marathon three-hour-long conference, Chairman Lee toured the research center, offering words of encouragement to the researchers.
