On September 11 (Monday) at 10 AM, KISDI held a kick-off meeting (in the small conference room on the 4th floor of the KISDI building in Jincheon, Chungcheongbuk-do) and an expert seminar to start the Myanmar Open Data Policy Consultation Meeting, a consultation-by-invitation event.

This invitation consultation meeting, held from September 10 - 16, 2017, was part of a larger policy consultation service project for Myanmar's open data industry. The Myanmar delegation attending the meeting was headed by Ms. Nwe Ni Soe Yin, the chief of the E-government Bureau at the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC), and six other Myanmar civil servants involved in e-government. During their trip to Korea, the delegation from Myanmar visited organizations related to open data to directly experience the status of the Korean open data industry. A seminar with a detailed program was organized to share Korean know-how and experience of open data with them, and to allow them to seek advice on open data policy.

Lee Jong-hwa, the head of the International Cooperation Group, started the kickoff meeting by welcoming the Myanmar delegation. He told them that through the invitation consultation program, the two countries could increase their understanding of each other's open data sector, and expressed his hope that the program would serve as an opportunity to discuss ways of collaborating on a continuous basis.

As part of the invitation consultation program, the delegation from Myanmar visited open data related facilities such as the National Information Resources Service (NIRS), the Samsung Innovation Museum (SIM), Open Square-D, the Transport Operation and Information Service (TOPIS), Yonsei University, the K-ICT Device Lab (NIPA), and the K-ICT Big Data Center (NIA), as well as attending the seminar. Through the invitation consultation program, the Myanmar delegation also visited industry sites and shared knowledge related to Korea's open data policy/technology and discussed important issues. A final workshop was held in which the issues raised during the invitation consultations were discussed. The workshop then drew up proposals about Myanmar's open data policies using a systematic approach.
