KISDI was named by Statistics Korea as a '2017 Excellent Organization for Promoting the Purveyance and Use of Statistical Data'.

In order to advance national statistics and improve the quality of statistics generally, Statistics Korea awards statistical data tabulation and compilation organizations that excel in collecting statistical data that are essential to policy making and providing them to interested parties, or to organizations that excel in improving the quality of data.

As a government research body responsible for broadcasting and media, KISDI devotes its resources to meeting the increasing demand from government, academia and research institutions for statistical data in the broadcast and media sector. To that end, since 2010, it has been carrying out Korea media panel surveys (i.e. nationally sanctioned statistics). It has also developed a broadcast/new media statistics information system (KISDI STAT) to store the results of the Korea media panel survey and other major broadcast statistics for provision to the public.

In particular, it has adopted the CAPI survey method to ensure the reliability of its statistical surveys and to improve their quality; strengthened its verification of data; operated supporters; and renewed the KISDI STAT homepage, as well as introducing a mobile APP to create a better user environment. It began publishing the KISDI STAT Report as a means of delivering the results of its statistical data analysis. Furthermore, to disseminate the results of its data research, KISDI has been hosting academic symposiums every year. KISDI was presented with this award in recognition of its efforts to improve the way its statistical results are provided to the public, particularly by allowing users to access them more easily and to use them in more diverse ways.
