On November 18 (Thursday), an online symposium was held at KISDI on the topic of ‘Policy Directions and Agenda for Creating a Trustworthy AI Society'. The symposium was also streamed live on the Internet.

Professor Choi Jae-sik (engineering) of KAIST, who was invited to give the keynote presentation at the presentation session, delivered a presentation on "Explicable technology development trends and applications of AI." This was followed by separate presentations on ‘Multidimensional Characteristics and Strategic Implications of Trust in AI, ‘Governance for Trustable AI’, and ‘Systems and Methods of Evaluating the Impact of AI Services’.

In his keynote presentation, Professor Choi talked about the technological approach to trustworthy AI. He described the technological explicability of AI in each sector of society and discussed agenda items for the future, such as performance evaluation of the relevant technologies and the explicability of Deep Learning.

This presentation dealt with the issue of seeking trust in AI from the social perception and institutional perspectives.

First, Lee Hyun-kyong, a deputy research fellow at KISDI, gave a talk on the topic of ‘Multidimensional Characteristics and Strategic Implications of Trust in AI’. She presented her findings from an examination of the factors in the user environment that influences trust in AI and the implications for developing strategies for the future.

Moon Kwang-jin, a deputy research fellow at KISDI, gave a presentation on the topic of ‘Governance for Trustworthy AI’, where he talked about the findings from a study on setting up governance in such a way as to comprehensively and systematically manage and respond to the entire cycle of the AI ecosystem.

Kwon Eun-jeong, a deputy research fellow at KISDI, delivered a presentation titled ‘Systems and Methods of Evaluating the Impact of AI Services’ during which she talked about a system for evaluating the impact of AI services in order to guarantee its reliability and manage its risks. She described ways of institutionalizing the system and discussed the results of a study on methods of evaluation.

In the final debate session, Director Moon Jung-wook, Director of KISDI’s Center for AI and Social Policy, presided over a debate on ‘Policy Directions and Agenda Items for Creating a Trustworthy AI Society’. Professor Seong Yong-joon (Psychology) of Korea University, Professor Yoon Hye-sun (Law) of Hanyang University, Professor Seon Ji-won of Kwangwoon University (Law), Senior Manager Lee Hee-ok (Law) of NAVER, and Senior Researcher Bang Joon-sung (Engineering) of ETRI all participated as members of the debate panel.
