On November 23 (Tuesday), KISDI, the Ministry of Science and ICT and Telecommunications Technology Association jointly hosted the 'Public Seminar on the Need to Strengthen the Trustworthiness * of AI' at The K Hotel in Seoul.

The seminar was organized as a follow-up event to the 'An AI Adoption Strategy One Can Trust’ policy announced by the Ministry of Science and ICT in May of this year. The main objectives of the seminar were to gather the views of industry experts on the AI ethics self-checking table, a guidebook on developing AI, and a draft outline of the ethics education currently under development.

At a time when social concerns such as algorithm bias and privacy infringement are gaining public attention, this seminar explored ways of maintaining a balance between making AI reliable and the development of the AI industry.

The seminar was presented by experts who discussed the draft of the artificial intelligence ethics self-checklist prepared by related professional institutions, the artificial intelligence development guide (guide book), and artificial intelligence ethics education.

In the first session, Moon Ah-ram (PhD) of KISDI gave a presentation on the AI ethics self-check table, citing it as a specific application of the 'AI Ethics Standard' (December 2020).

In the second session, Director Cha Soon-il of the Telecommunications Technology Association gave a presentation on the artificial intelligence development guidebook, which presents the technical requirements that must be adhered to in order to ensure trustworthiness at the AI development stage.

Professor Kim Jee-hee (Dongguk University), Professor Park Kyu-dong (Kwangwoon University), Professor Suh Kyung-won (Seoul National University of Science and Technology), CEO Kim Dong-hwan (42Maru), CEO Kim Se-yeop (SelectStar), and Moon Jung-wook (Head of KISDI’s Center for AI & Social Policy) participated in the session, along with the heads of various AI companies who offered their own suggestions for improving the development guidebook to better reflect reality.

In the third session, Professor Byun Soon-yong of Seoul National University of Education and Cho Seong-eun of KISDI gave a presentation on an outline of AI ethics education in which they provided a vision of how ethics should be taught in the AI sector.

Kim Chang-hwan (PhD, Korean Educational Development Institute), Team Leader Lee Hyun-sook (Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science & Creativity), Chun Sung-kyun (PhD, Korea Institute of Curriculum and Evaluation), Professor Yang Chun-soo (Yeongnam University), Professor Han Sun-kwan (Gyeongin National University of Education), Professor Kim Hyo-eun (Hanbat National University), Kim Jong-hye (Teacher, Seowon High School, Gyeonggi-do), and Chun Jae-nam (Teacher, Maeyang Middle School, Gyeonggi-do) participated in the session as debaters, introducing their personal experiences on the front lines of teaching.
