The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI), together with the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA), held the 3rd AI Ethics Policy Forum at Melon Hall, Sportime Building in Seocho-gu, Seoul, at 3:30 PM on Thursday, August 31 and continued the public debate on the establishment of a new digital order.
The AI Ethics Policy Forum launched its 2nd phase in April of this year, with some thirty experts from various fields, including industry, academic, legal, education, and civic organizations in attendance, with a view to playing a leading role as a forum for discussing policy directions for promoting AI ethics and securing reliability throughout the entire life cycle of AI technology from its development and production to its utilization.
During the forum, opinions were raised from various perspectives on the ethical principles, policy directions, and rights and responsibilities of each entity that should be included in the “Digital Bill of Rights” in order to maintain the competitiveness of the AI industry while increasing social acceptance with regard to the various concerns and issues raised by AI.
Sang-hoon Song, Deputy Director General of Information and Communication Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, pointed out that “Artificial intelligence is a key factor leading to digital deepening. If used well, it could improve human life and become a driving force for social and economic progress, but there are also concerns that if used incorrectly, it will cause social conflict and other serious issues.” Deputy Director General Song went on to say that “We will continue to listen to the diverse opinions of people from all walks of life, including experts, stakeholders, and citizens, in a bid to establish a new digital order in which all members of society can enjoy the benefits, while continuing to promote the innovations brought about by AI.”
This forum was broadcast in real time via an online channel linked to the Digital Public Forum (http://beingdigital.kr). Anyone can check the contents of the discussions at the website and freely express their opinions.
