The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI, President Sangkyu Rhee) hosted a special session titled "Economic Inquiries in the AI Age: Perspectives from KISDI" at The 2026 Korean Economic Review (KER) International Conference, held on June 22 at the Halla Convention Center in Jeju. The session presented research examining the economic implications of the rapid adoption of generative AI, with a focus on its effects on the labor market, information markets, and the digital content ecosystem.

The session was organized to examine emerging economic issues arising in the AI era, including skill bias, information distortion, creators' rights, and information reliability. Discussions centered on the impact of generative AI on labor markets, information markets, creative ecosystems, and the production and distribution of information.

Ahram MOON, Fellow at KISDI, presented "The Skill Bias of Generative AI through Complementarity." The presentation examined how generative AI can complement, rather than simply replace, human labor, while noting that the degree of complementarity varies across skill levels, gender, and educational backgrounds. It introduced "complementarity" as an additional indicator to address limitations in existing AI exposure measures. The analysis suggested that highly skilled workers are more likely to benefit from AI augmentation, whereas women and workers with lower educational attainment remain relatively vulnerable, indicating that the diffusion of generative AI may reinforce skill bias. The presentation also discussed the need for policy considerations to support human-centered AI.

Yeonso Ra, Associate Fellow at KISDI, presented "Facts for Sale: Strategic Slant in Attention Markets." The study examined, through two controlled experiments, whether competition for users' attention encourages information providers to selectively emphasize particular aspects of issues and how such content, when distributed through personalized algorithms, influences users' perceptions of facts and policy preferences.

Jaekyung Shin, Associate Fellow at KISDI, presented "Creator Responses to Default Rules for Generative AI Training." Using data from an online experiment involving 1,210 creators in the United States and the United Kingdom, the study analyzed how different default rules—opt-in and opt-out—for the use of creative works as AI training data affect creators' motivation, perceptions of rights protection, and willingness to consent to AI training. The findings indicated that the opt-in approach, which requires creators' explicit consent, resulted in the highest levels of both creative motivation and perceived protection of rights. The study also found that royalty payments alone were insufficient to substitute for an opt-in framework. The presentation discussed the institutional implications of consent mechanisms for future AI training governance.

Daehong Min, Fellow at KISDI, presented "Long Bayesian Persuasion." The presentation analyzed the long-term persuasion strategies of multiple information producers operating under uncertainty and their influence on decision-making. It also examined how the strategies of information providers and the expectations of information users evolve through repeated information provision. The discussion considered the implications of information provision and persuasion in AI-enabled information environments and reviewed approaches to improving information reliability and the quality of decision-making.

Through the special session, KISDI shared research on the economic and social changes associated with the expansion of AI and exchanged research findings with the academic community. The Institute plans to continue identifying and examining policy issues relevant to the AI era through ongoing academic collaboration.
