이호영 본부장Mr. Lee Ho-Young, Executive Director of digital economy and social research Division at the Korean Information Society Development Institute (KISDI), was appointed as a civilian member of the Presidential Committee on the Fourth Industrial Revolution(4th term), which was officially launched on May 7.
The new committee was created to deliberate and adjust the overall policy agenda related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which cannot be handled solely by a specific government ministry in the rapidly changing environment, and to promote the related innovation. The committee has 34 members, including 19 civilian and 13 government members, with the prime minister and the president of the civil committee serving as the co-chairmen.
The 4th civilian committee expanded participation from the industry, including data and AI experts, to better reflect the opinions of the private sector and promote creativity and innovation. Three special committees (data, smart city, digital health) operating within the 4th Committee members were involved, thereby strengthening the link with the activities of the special committees.
The 4th term of the Fourth Industrial Revolution Committee will continue playing its role as a deliberation and decision-making body under the direct control of the President in order to respond to the social changes brought about by Industry 4.0 and to create innovative, tangible results that can be actually felt by the public, such as the popularization of artificial intelligence. Especially in its function as a public-private joint data control tower that comprehensively oversees the national data policy, the committee is expected to contemplate ways to increase the value of and opportunities for data utilization, and to deal with the long-awaited tasks of the industry in depth, taking the lead in promoting Korea as a pioneer of the data economy.
