KISDI President Suk-Ho Bang attended the 18th ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in Guadalajara, Mexico on Oct 4, to gather support for Korea's hosting of the 2014 Plenipotentiary Conference and council member appointment.
President Bang also took part in the policy speech session with Korean Communications Commission Chairman See Joong Choi in the afternoon, and advertised Korea's intention to host PP-14 to other member countries' representatives.
On the following day, President Bang joined a luncheon with Plenipotentiary Conference Chairman Fernando Borjon Figueroa, ITU Secretary General Hamadoun Toure, as well as 500-plus representatives of ITU member countries, and asked for support for Korea's hosting of PP-14 and council member appointment. Chairman Figueroa and Secretary General Toure said in their congratulatory speech that they welcome Korea's bid to host the PP.
A source from the KCC predicted Korea's bid for PP-14 to be successful, saying, "the KCC has had frequent consultations with the ITU Secretariat since 2009 and completed necessary administrative procedures."
The Korean delegation to the latest conference said that participants were very glad about Korea's bid for PP-14 because "Korea has highly advanced ICT infrastructure and human resources, and rich experience in hosting international events."
