The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) was visited by China Telecom delegation on November 22, 2012 and had a meeting on Korea's broadband networks.
Dr. SungOk Kim introduced KISDI and Dr. JongHwa Lee, Executive Director of Telecommunications and Spectrum Research Division made a presentation on Korea's broadband networks in which Korea's ICT industry and mobile phone users were examined, and the market share of wired/wireless communications operators and a road map for communications technologies were explained. The last part of the presentation was about main events and policies regarding convergence services and broadband networks, and future ICT prospects. The presentation was followed by Q&A session over Korea's mobile market.
China Telecom, the largest carrier in China, has been selected as one of Fortune Global 500 top companies for years, and recorded the revenue of USD 30.63 billion and net profit of USD 2.1 billion with 309,799 employees as of 2011. Its subscribers are more than 40 million, accounting for 62% of China's Internet business market.
This meeting was prepared at the request of China telecom to learn Korea's advanced ICT policies with the supports from the Korea China Cultural Association, and expected to pave the way for promoting the exchanges between KISDI and China Telecom.
