The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) held '2012 Final Workshop of ICT Consultation and Cooperation for Developing Countries' on November 27, 2012 at the Korea Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI).
KISDI has led 37 ICT consultation projects for 19 countries since 2002 which were sponsored by the Korea Communications Commission. With the projects, Korea has shared its experience and expertise in ICT development with developing countries, and supported the establishment of ICT policies for the countries.
The final workshop was held to introduce the outcomes of 2012 KISDI ICT consultation projects: consultation on spectrum management for the Philippines, consultation on spectrum withdrawal and reallocation for Peru, consultation on ICT convergence for Nepal, and technological cooperation in IT security for Indonesia. The workshop was also to share the up-to-date information on the current status and issues of ICT industry of developing countries with Korean corporations and institutions.
The workshop was attended by many government officers, ICT experts, and scholars including Officer SungBae Jeon, KCC, CEO YoungGil Seo, ICM, CEO JungHyub Kang, SICIS, and CEO DeaYoung Kang, Haejin Tech.
KISDI President DongWook Kim said, in his opening speech, that ICT policies played an important role in the successful growth of Korea's ICT industry, and there is a growing demand from developing countries to learn from Korea. He also expressed this workshop was prepared to support Korean businesses and institutions which run cooperation projects with developing countries or plan to do by sharing the consultation project outcomes.
This workshop is expected to highlight the growing significance of ICT policy consultation and cooperation with developing countries and to increase the effectiveness of projects by encouraging the participation of the private sector in Korea.
