Dr. Seo BO-Hyun, Executive Director of International Cooperation Division at the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) attended the 4th APT Preparatory Meeting for World Telecommunication Development Conference 14 (WTDC-14) held at Pullman Hotel in Pattaya, Thailand between January 21 and 24. The meeting was participated by representatives and experts representing 21 Asia-Pacific members and 12 affiliate members and international/regional organizations including the ISOC, GSMA and APNIC, and discussed and finalized the Preliminary APT Common Proposals. Dr. Seo served as the vice chairman of the plenary sessions of the meeting.

The APT Preparatory Meetings for WTDC-14 are currently chaired by Mr. Chakrya Moa, director of the Telecom Regulator of Cambodia (TRC). The Preliminary APT Common Proposals adopted at this meeting includes the 2014-2018 ITU Strategic Plan related to Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D), revisions of existing programs and resolutions and major issues for study. The proposals will be submitted to the WTDC-14, which is scheduled to take place from March 30 to April 10 in Dubai, after being reviewed and approved by ATP member states. Some of the subjects such as the strategic plan will be more thoroughly discussed during the 2014 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-14), which will be held in Busan, Korea.

Dr. Eun-Ju Kim, who has been serving as the director of the ITU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific for 14 years and will be soon working at the ITU headquarters made a presentation on ITU’s preparation for the WTDC-14, while Dr. Bruce Gracie, chairman of ITU-T Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group (TSAG) presented the Inter-American proposals on resolutions, questions, and regional initiatives in detail.
