The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) was visited by the delegation of members of the Peruvian Congress on 3 September and held a seminar on Korea-Peru cooperation in ICT as well as on Korea’s creative economy initiatives and ICT.

The visit of the Peruvian delegation was arranged during the discussions between the two countries, which had been taking place to develop strategies for the Peruvian government to adopt a Korean-style creative economy, and to share Korea’s experience in building a creative economy.

Before the seminar, the delegation met with KISDI President Kim Do-whan. In this meeting, President Kim welcomed the delegation headed by Dr. Angel Neyra Olaychea and said that he hoped the visit would help the Peruvian delegates understand the creative economy Korea had been building and facilitate bilateral cooperation and exchanges in the field of ICT as well as other areas. In response, Dr. Olaychea said that this visit would provide himself and his delegation with a great opportunity to learn about Korea’s creative economy initiatives and experience in ICT development and he also hoped to continue working with KISDI in the future.

Dr. Kang In-soo, Director of the International Cooperation Research Division, Dr. Seo Bo-hyun, Senior Research Fellow of the International Cooperation Research Division, and Dr. Kim Kyu-nam, Senior Researcher of the ICT Industry Research Division attended the seminar and Researcher Song Young-min and Dr. Kim gave their presentation. In her presentation, Researcher Song introduced KISDI’s ICT Policy Consultation and ICT Advisory Mission Programs for Developing Countries and explained that KISDI had worked with the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru three times in the year of 2009, 2012 and 2014 on the topic of digital convergence services, spectrum reallocation and smart city, respectively. In the following presentation titled “The Creative Economy and ICT”, Dr. Kim discussed the key elements of Korea’s creative economy, the role of ICT, and the current status and future outlook for the ICT sector.

The Peruvian delegation expressed their gratitude and said that the visit greatly helped enhance their understanding of Korea’s creative economy.
