The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) held a kick-off meeting with the Argentine delegation, who was invited to Korea as part of the Spectrum Management Consultation Project for Argentina, on June 1 at a KISDI conference room. The five-day visit between June 1 and 5 was attended by five Argentine government officials including Eugenia Migliori, Advisor to the Secretary of Communications (SECOM) and Guillermo Montenegro, Engineering Manager at the National Commission of Communications (CNC). During the visit, the delegates went to a number of Korean institutions and facilities responsible for spectrum management in Korea and met with industry experts and scholars to learn about Korea’s knowledge and experiences in the area.
In the seminar following the kick-off meeting, Dr. Kang In-su of KISDI outlined the one-week program prepared for the Argentine delegation and Dr. Lee Jong-kwan of Media & Future Institute gave a presentation titled “Korea’s Spectrum Management Policy”. Eugenia Migliori, Advisor to SECOM also introduced Argentina’s authorities in charge of spectrum management and presented current issues.
During the visit, the delegates went to visit the Korea Communications Agency (KCA), the Communication Conformity Assessment Center of Korea’s Radio Research Agency (RRA), the Satellite Radio Monitoring Center and the Seoul Office of the Central Radio Monitoring Office (CRMO), KBS as well as Namsan Transmission Station to see how radio frequencies and spectrum are managed in Korea, and also had hands-on experience with Korea’s ICT trends at Incheon U-CIty, Samsung Innovation Museum and SK T.um.
The invitation provided the Argentine delegation with opportunities to learn about Korea’s know-how in spectrum management and to benchmark its best practices, while enabling KISDI to survey the needs of the delegation in terms of spectrum management policy consultation.
KISDI has been conducting policy consultation programs in the field of ICT and broadcasting for developing countries and major partner countries for over a decade. This year, the Spectrum Management Policy Consultation Project for Argentina was selected as one of such programs and KISDI established a consultative group of experts and has been providing policy advice to Argentina.
