The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI), held “Seminar on Ways to Facilitate Convergence to Invigorate the Service Economy” at The-K Hotel, Seoul, on June 1 to discuss measures to facilitate ICT-based convergence. 

At a time when the manufacturing-and export-based growth model is facing limits, there is a growing need for strengthening competitiveness of the service industry, with new industry created by ICT convergence gaining a particular attraction for its potential to drive emergence and growth of new industries.

Under such circumstances, the seminar was organized to hear opinions of experts on what kinds of policy measures are needed to promote industry convergence.

At the seminar, Dr. Yuri Park of KISDI, suggested measures to facilitate industrial convergence as follows; (a)creating regulatory environment conducive to sustainable innovation, (b)implementing a system to give incentives to induce convergence, and (c)building infrastructure needed to strengthen competitiveness of converged industries. In the following discussion, with Dr. Jeong-eon Kim of KISDI as the moderator, experts from businesses and academia including Prof. Inha Oh of Kunkook University, Hye-seung Jung of Daum Kakao, Sangdae Lee of Im Healthcare expressed their opinions on this issue.
