The 1st Asia-Pacific preparatory meeting for the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-17) to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina in October 2017 was held in Singapore on August 2.
This meeting was jointly managed by the Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) and IDA, a regulatory agency on information and communications. Dr. Seo Bo-hyun of KISDI, who served as vice chairman for the previous session, presided over the meeting as chairman of the opening ceremony of the 1st preparatory meeting in the Asia-Pacific region.
The meeting examined and analyzed major issues, such as major programs and research tasks for the areas of ITU development and cooperation, which are to be dealt with during the 7th WTDC, local initiatives and WSIS, and SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) and confirmed the executive plan for developing joint contribution for the Asia-Pacific region.
In addition, 3 working groups were launched in order to carry out executive works effectively, with the chairman and vice chairman elected for each working team. Researcher
Jeon Seon-min of the KISDI international cooperation research office was selected as vice chairman of working group 2 (WG2), which deals with agendas for WSIS, SDG, and Connect 2020, serving until WTDC-17 next year.
