The Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) hosted the “4th Korean Media Panel Symposium” at Sportime in Yangjae-dong last September 2.
Started in 2010, this Korean Media Panel Symposium was the fourth symposium for providing the primitive data of the Korean media panel survey to the relevant academic societies, research industries, industries, and policy authorities and to share the research outcomes.
This symposium was prepared with richer and more various contents compared to the previous years by including the special session that introduces cases of establishment and operation of major national panels in order to facilitate understanding on the panel data survey, aside from sessions for presenting research on profound statistical methodologies for analyzing panel data.
The Korean media panel survey is a survey for investigating mid- to long-term changes in media consumption by individuals and households in Korea given the rapidly changing media environment. With the first survey conducted in 2010, the 7th survey was completed this year. It is Korea's only media panel survey that studies the trend of changes in media usage for households and their individuals. The accumulated data are being utilized as valuable resources for domestic and foreign researchers who study broadcasting and media.
A total of 17 dissertations -- 14 general dissertations and 3 winning papers by graduate students -- were presented in the symposium. Researchers in various fields, such as communication sciences, economics, administration, business, statistics, and geography, gave presentations in order to present the empirical study results from multilateral perspectives and topics in the field of media.
