At the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC, Argentina, 9~10 October 2017) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Director Goh Sang-won of KISDI's Department of International Cooperation Research was elected as the next vice-chairman of the Study Group (SG1) on Enabling the Environment for the Development of Telecommunications/ICT.
The objectives of the study group were to share information and knowledge about developing nations' access to cloud computing; consumer information protection; policies on the transition to digital broadcasting and broadband networks; and regulations and guidelines/cases on technology
Until 2017, South Korea had cooperated with the ITU-D in projects that provided developing nations with assistance in setting their ICT policies and managing their frequency spectrums. Director Ko's election to the vice-chairmanship of the study group, a first for a Korean, was expected to open the doors to further cooperation with developing nations.
