Jeong Guk-hwan, a former researcher at KISDI, was honored by the government by being included among the thirty people selected as ‘Great Contributors in the 50-Year History of E-government'.

To honor the achievements of the past fifty years of e-government and the role models to follow for the next 100 years, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on October 30 that it was going to award individuals selected as ‘Great Contributors in the 50-Year History of E-government'. The fifty great contributions to e-government were made up of thirty individuals who played an important role in the development of e-government or made a significant achievement, along with ten services and ten contributions from the industry and other organizations.

Former researcher Jeong Guk-hwan headed the audit and research department of the National Information Society Agency (NIA), was a researcher at KISDI, and led the e-government bureau at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety before working as a senior researcher at KISDI. Currently, he is the vice-president of the Korea Institute for Development Strategy.

During his 5-year tenure as the head of the e-government bureau at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Mr. Jeong Guk-hwan led the development of eleven main agendas and thirty-one roadmap agendas which ultimately formed the cornerstone of Korea's advanced e-government. He was also in charge of managing the collaboration project with international organizations (ITU, World Bank) which sought to pass on Korean expertise in advanced government to developing countries such as Uzbekistan, Bhutan, Nigeria, and Tunisia. His e-government work contributed to ushering in administrative innovations in developing countries while simultaneously helping to raise the profile of Korea.

Also, while working at KISDI for fourteen years, Mr. Jeong assumed the position of head of the Future Strategy Research Center and head of the Future Fusion Research Center. During his career at KISDI, his research work included numerous e-government related researches such as the following: research on advancing the informatization of government through the commercialization of IT; research on strategies for new informatization that could lead to a more human-oriented communication society; research on strategies for creating a more person-centered informatization; research on role division and the promotion of cooperation between private-public sector for advancing e-government; research on methodologies for evaluating the results of public informatization; research on conflict management during the informatization process and informatization strategies; and research on 21st-century Korean megatrends. As the results of his research were consulted by the government during its development of e-government and national informatization policies, he is recognized for his immense contribution to making South Korea's e-government a world-class standard.

On the occasion of the fiftieth year of e-government, former researcher Jeong said, "The passion, competition and cooperation displayed by government bodies and the leadership of the people in charge (in establishing the 11 agendas of e-government and the 31 roadmap agendas) were the core engines that drove the creation of Korea's advanced e-government." He added, "I hope the Internet service that allows citizens and corporations to experience safe e-government and a transparent administration will continue to improve, increasing the spread of a sustainable e-government."
