On November 23 (Thursday), KISDI held an international conference on the topic ‘The Quest to Increase Media Diversity' at the press room on the 19th floor of the Press Center.
The goal of the conference was to seek international cooperation regarding government policies aimed at increasing media diversity. The efforts of European countries to increase media diversity were introduced at the conference along with various Korean cases.
The conference was divided into two parts: the first part was devoted to the subject of ‘Germany's Regulation of Media Viewership' and while the second was devoted to ‘Media Diversity Analysis'.
The first part was hosted by Professor Yun Seok-min (Seoul National University), during which a presentation was given by Georgios Gounalakis of Germany's Kommission zur Ermittlung der Konzentration im Medienbereich (KEK), Professor Jeong Du-nam (Kobaco), Professor Hwang Yong-seok (Kunkuk University), Professor Park Ju-yeon (Hankuk University of Foreign Studies), and Professor Park Min-gyu (Korea University).
The second part was hosted by Professor Hong Seok-gyung (Seoul National University), and presentations were given by Elda Brogi from of the European University Institute's Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom (CMPF) in Italy, Gedalin Vanhil of France's Conseil supérieur de l'audiovisuel (CSA), Tania Suarez of Portugal's Media Regulating Entity (ERC), and Dr. Seong Wook-je of KISDI. After the presentations, Professor Kang Jae-won (Dongguk University), Vice Chairman Song Byung-jun (Corea Drama Production Association), President Yoon Jeong-ju (Korean WomenLink) led the discussion panel.
